NYAB secures BoP agreement for the construction of the Leviäkumpu substation and energy storage
10.02.25NYAB has signed a Balance of Plant (BoP) agreement with a company belonging to the Special Investment Fund UB Uusiutuva Energia for the construction of the Leviäkumpu 110/33 kV substation and 30 MW/60 MWh energy storage in Kemijärvi. The value of the contract is over 4 million euros. The design work has already begun, construction work will start in the spring of 2025, and the entire project is scheduled to be completed by early 2026.
The energy storage will be connected to the national grid through the nearby Fingrid Kellarijänkä substation. The connection between the substations will be implemented with a 110 kV underground cable. NYAB’s delivery includes, among other things, the following key aspects for the project:
- Comprehensive design
- Earthworks and foundation works for the substation and battery storage
- Mechanical and electrical installation works for battery storage components
- Construction of the 110 kV connection substation (including the main transformer)
- Control building for the 33 kV air-insulated switchgear and secondary systems
- SJV2019 delivery with required modelling, simulations, and tests
This comprehensive project ensures the seamless integration of the energy storage into the regional energy infrastructure.
“We are delighted to have received the Leviäkumpu project, marking a great start to 2025. The project is a good continuation of our battery storage projects, which are part of our extensive offering,” says Pauli Lahti, Sales Manager of NYAB Finland.
“We are very pleased to have NYAB as our partner in this project. Their competent expertise and experience in battery storage projects ensure smooth implementation of the project within the agreed schedule. NYAB’s commitment to the project and comprehensive approach, combined with the successful implementation of a similar project, were key and decisive factors in our selection,” says Tapio Nuotio, Portfolio Manager of the Special investment Fund UB Uusiutuva Energia.
