Joona Kesänen works at NYAB Finland as a Site Foreman in the industrial construction unit. His path to NYAB began with a strong recommendation. Trust in a colleague’s opinion and the opportunity to grow within a developing organization made the decision an easy one.

“I joined NYAB thanks to a recommendation from my colleague Timo Korvela. We had worked on the same projects for many years, and his positive experience with the company convinced me to join,” Joona explains.

Currently, Joona works at the construction site of Kemijoki Oy’s Ossauskoski fish hatchery in Northern Finland’s Lapland region, where he is responsible for supervisory duties. The versatility and technical details of the project keep the work interesting, but according to him, one aspect stands above the rest: “Managing workforce resources and coordinating different operations smoothly in the field is motivating, because you can clearly see how your own work impacts the overall success of the project.”

For Joona, the meaningfulness of the job comes above all from solving challenges. Each workday brings new situations that require careful consideration, teamwork, and the courage to make decisions. At the same time, he feels he is part of a company that is developing with determination.

“It’s motivating to be part of a fresh, dynamic company where the management’s strategy aligns with my own views on development,” he says.

In NYAB’s work culture, Joona especially appreciates the genuine interest supervisors show toward the daily operations on-site. He feels he receives support and clear goals, which builds trust and enables high-quality project leadership.

Joona is originally from Lestijärvi, a small municipality located in Central Ostrobothnia region of Western Finland, where nature and a strong sense of togetherness are always close by. When asked where he would take visitors in his hometown, the answer is clear: “To Laavusaari for an evening campfire, grilling sausages.” The area’s peaceful atmosphere and closeness to nature reflect the environment he returns to when he needs to recharge.

In his free time, Joona spends a lot of time outdoors with his dogs. One of his most important hobbies is breeding and training bear-barking dogs. It is a pastime that offers a counterbalance to a social and fast-paced work life.

“It brings balance to everyday life and allows me to focus on something completely different,” Joona notes.
