The Pyhäjärvi and Haapajärvi bridge project combines the construction of a new waterway bridge, the refurbishment of an existing bridge, and associated earthworks into a comprehensive infrastructure construction scheme. The project will improve traffic safety in the area, secure reliable transport connections for the future, and further strengthen NYAB’s expertise in delivering demanding bridge projects.
The contract includes the construction of a new waterway bridge in Pyhäjärvi, the refurbishment of the Lassila Bridge in Haapajärvi, and all related earthworks. It is a technically diverse project that combines new construction, renovation works, and operations in a watercourse environment.
The condition of the existing Pyhäjärvi Bridge no longer meets the load-bearing requirements of the main road network. The new bridge will improve traffic safety and operational reliability while meeting the region’s future transport needs. At the same time, the project will support regional vitality by ensuring smooth transport connections for both residents and businesses.
The project’s main challenges relate to scheduling the various construction phases and coordinating multiple stakeholders. A broad subcontractor network is involved, making effective coordination a critical factor in the successful delivery of the contract. In addition, working in a watercourse environment places specific demands on construction methods, occupational safety, and environmental management.
Sustainability is reflected in practical solutions throughout the project. Wherever possible, recycled concrete from demolition works and reusable soil materials will be utilised. Environmental requirements have been set for construction equipment, and all site electricity will be sourced from renewable energy. These measures help reduce the environmental impact of construction activities and support resource-efficient project delivery.
The project further strengthens NYAB’s expertise in complex bridge contracts and contributes to the continued development of the company’s safety and quality capabilities in infrastructure construction. For the client, the result will be safe, durable, and reliably delivered infrastructure that meets both current requirements and future needs.
