NYAB signs contract with Swedish Transport Administration for additional projects within Opto 2.0
20.02.24NYAB has been awarded the railway section Järna–Nyköping–Åby within the Swedish Transport Administration's expansion program Opto 2.0, where a new fiber network is inserted to implement the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) signaling system in Sweden. The contract is worth SEK 47 million and means an opportunity for additional orders as the Swedish Transport Administration can assign NYAB other parts in the program without new procurements.
NYAB has previously been awarded four projects within the Swedish Transport Administration's expansion program Opto 2.0 and this project attaches to NYAB's work on the section Nässjö–Mjölby–Åby. It is an execution contract and work will begin in March 2024 and expected to be completed in October 2025.
“By gathering experience and create improvements in working methods, we have succeeded in excellence in this niche in the railway field. It is gratifying that we have extended trust from the Swedish Transport Administration for a fifth project within Opto 2.0. The work with previous sections and the possibility to continue seamlessly also means continuity in the project team, which ensures continued good results”, says Johan Skoog, business area manager at NYAB.
The new fiber network is a prerequisite for the introduction of the ERTMS signaling system in Sweden. The expansion program, which affects the entire country's railway network, began in 2018 and is planned to last until 2029. The Swedish Transport Administration calculates the total cost for the introduction of Opto 2.0 at approximately SEK 5 billion.
