History

We are a company built on decades of business experience but that is constantly renewing itself. As we continue to grow it is important that we remember our history in order that we may that we can both learn from and appreciate the changes that have occurred.

1990 – The early years
Former NTG (today known as BDX) employees Åke and Tord founded Nyanläggarna i Luleå AB. For the first 21 years the company was limited to smaller demolition, land improvement and fencing projects. The annual revenue for the company is between 4-18 million SEK.

2011 – New builders in town
In 2011, Nyanläggarna i Luleå AB is acquired by brothers Johan Larsson and Mikael Ritola. The following summer Johan Larsson is appointed CEO and begins to develop the company with a focus on new areas of specialisation and plans for expansion.

2013 – Here we go!
The spring of 2013 is the start of our growth journey as Nyanläggarna welcomes two new partners – Stefan Säthergren and Fredrik Karkiainen. At the same time Johan Larsson is now working full-time as CEO and the company expands its operational and administrative capabilities. These changes coincide with steady growth in the land improvement area of the business.

2014 – Nyanläggarna becomes NYAB
An important year for the company. The company changes its name to NYAB Sverige, a name which will become synonymous with the company’s high ambition. At this time NYAB made two key acquisitions:

  • Construction consortium HT-Bygg, bringing with them 15 employees
  • Land improvement company MMS (Mark Montage & Stängsel).

The latter of which became NYAB INFRA. Subsequently, Ronny Nylund is appointed CEO. Robert Säthergren joins NYAB as part owner.

Offices are opened in Kiruna and Gällivare.

The company is closing in on 100 million SEK in revenue.

2015 – 2017 – Growth and the founding of Infrastruktur
The group’s revenue hits 300 million SEK in 2015.

The contracts and projects that NYAB are being chosen for increase in their complexity, outlining growing confidence in the company from our clients.

NYAB moves into a new market segment – ballast and rock operations.

In 2016 NYAB and NYAB INFRA are merged.

The following year, the subsidiary NYAB Infrastruktur is founded in order to focus on road work, municipal agreements and maintenance work for The Swedish Transport Administration. NYAB Infrastruktur is the first step to becoming a dominant force in eastern Norrbotten.

Björn Lindbäck and Magnus Granljung join as co-owners. Within a month a road work project worth 100 million SEK is signed. By the end of  2017, the NYAB group’s revenue is close to 500 million SEK and NYAB Infrastruktur has opened an office in Kalix.

2018 – Opening of new offices and expansion of personnel
NYAB’s first complex railroad project is completed and NYAB wins the first municipal contract for ground and coating work.

New offices are opened in Piteå and in the border town of Haparanda.

In order to meet demand the number of employees surpasses one hundred. This expansion drives even greater standards of professionalism and establishes more specialised areas of expertise to the company.

2019 – Ten digits
In 2014 the change of name to NYAB Sverige (Sweden) outlined the company’s national ambitions. Five years later, a further step was taken when the subsidiary NYAB Mälardalen was established. Johan Skoog was hired as CEO.

The office in Hägersten, Stockholm, opened.

NYAB passed 1 billion SEK in revenue.

2020 – Year 2020
30 years since the founding of NYAB’s precursor, Nyanläggarna, was founded.

The Group’s operations are divided into four business areas; Land improvement, Infrastructure, Special and Mälardalen.

NYAB signed its first basic maintenance contract with the Swedish Transport Administration.

The number of employees exceeds two hundred.

Sales are estimated at SEK 1.4 billion.

2021 – Double up in Stockholm
NYAB folds our traditional construction operations. Despite this the Group continues to grow organically while maintaining profitability. The core business is very strong in all geographic areas of operation.

In the Stockholm area we double our volume.

2022 – A new chapter begins

The year begins with a strong order intake, including several multi-year contracts in several business units. We open new offices in Gävle and Boden.

A new chapter begins: we join with publicly listed company, Skarta Group.

We became SkartaNYAB and list on Nasdaq First North Helsinki.

Skarta’s core business is in Finland and northern Sweden with a focuses on infrastructure, energy and industrial construction. Along with Skarta other companies join, including: the land improvement group Niskasen Maansiirto, the electrical engineering company Sitema and the project development company Skarta Energy.

Following a brief name deviation, we change our name back to NYAB.

The journey continues…
