Meet Göran Sandberg – Measurement Coordinator at NYAB
05.10.23Göran Sandberg has extensive experience in the industry and the role of measurement technician. Today he works as a measurement coordinator and is an important part of the recently started work to build up NYAB Mälardalen’s measurement organization.
“The long-term goal is to create a framework of experienced measurement technicians who in turn have both the time and knowledge to offer internships. In five years, I hope we’ll be there.”
Hi Göran, can you tell us about your role as measurement coordinator?
In my role as measurement coordinator, I have two main tasks, partly to ensure that all our ongoing projects are staffed by measurement technicians with the right skills and experience. On the one hand, work long-term to build up a measurement organization, work that began about a year ago. My assignment basically consists of developing the measurement group’s skilled and driven measurement techniques, which in turn drives the company forward.
What motivates you in your work?
I am motivated by being part of a team and that I have also been part of a fantastic development in measurement technology, a work that continues to develop. I usually describe the work as a service profession. We are a support function that helps professionals in their daily work to translate drawing into reality, ie how it should look, everything from small details in the ongoing work to the end result. Therefore, it is important to be well prepared, responsive and always one step ahead in planning. As well as it is important to respect each role and its respective responsibilities and competencies.
But I am also motivated by the chance to be part of a growing business and the opportunity to build an organization from scratch.
Looking ahead, where do you see yourself in 5 years?
The long-term goal is to create a framework of experienced measurement technicians who in turn have both the time and knowledge to offer internships. It is a very good first step into the profession and the industry, at the same time as it is a chance for the trainee to get to know NYAB and vice versa. In five years’ time, I hope we will be there.
To get there, we need to continue to be an attractive employer for knowledgeable and experienced personnel, without compromising on our values and the family feeling that exists at NYAB.
What qualities do you think are important to thrive at NYAB?
I think that one of the most important qualities to thrive in a workplace like NYAB is to be without prestige. That you can look at the whole and put the team’s success before your own. Then, in the long run, we will be able to maintain the family feeling even though we are growing and expanding our business into new areas.
