Meet Lina Lundqvist – Construction Engineer at NYAB

During her studies, Lina Lundqvist had her sights set on the mining industry. But a summer job at NYAB made her think differently. Today she works as a construction engineer at NYAB, a role that requires both breadth and cutting-edge expertise.

Hi Lina, can you tell us more about your role as a construction engineer?

As a construction engineer, I am a support function to the site manager on the project. This means that I get to be involved in many parts of the project. For example, financial issues, quality work, follow-up, work environment and ensuring that we meet the requirements for contract work. That said, lots of parts and every day is different.

 

What is the most fun thing about your work?

The most fun and at the same time most challenging thing about my role is the variety of tasks. Each individual project has different requirements, which means that we construction engineers need a broad base to stand on, while at the same time being able to delve into certain specific parts. This means that both breadth and cutting-edge expertise are developed.

I am motivated by being part of a project organization and producing something together. It may not be me who physically performs a certain task, but each function complements each other, and we are all involved from start to finish. As a recent graduate, it is rewarding to work in a well-functioning organization like NYAB, which has many major support functions in place. There is always a good colleague to ask for help or advice when faced with a challenge.

 

You ended up in the industry a bit by chance, wasn’t it?

I studied Civil Engineering at LTU and had my sights set on the mining industry. Last summer I was offered a summer job at NYAB, and I thought it would be fun to try something else before graduation. It turned out to be a good decision and I enjoyed working at NYAB and my summer job on a project in Kiruna so much that I came back the following summer and was offered employment after that. Starting with a summer job was a great way to get to know NYAB, while getting to know me. And it turned out that we got on very well together.
