Meet Martin Wäppling – Work Manager at NYAB
02.02.24Martin Wäppling is now in his third year at NYAB Mälardalen and looks forward to continuing to strengthen and expand NYAB’s presence in southern Sweden. Mainly in railways, an area that he finds very exciting.
“I see railways as a very exciting strategic investment, and we continue to gain new ground in the area.”
Hi Martin, how did you end up here at NYAB?
As an old Luleå resident, I saw up close the growth journey that NYAB made there. After studying to become a civil engineer focused on urban development and working on both the execution and client side, in the spring of 2021, I had the opportunity to be part of a similar journey here in Mälardalen. It was too good to be able to say no to, says Martin Wäppling, work manager at NYAB Mälardalen.
How do you like working at NYAB after your three years here?
I really enjoy working at NYAB and in my role as a work manager! We have a lot of freedom with responsibility, which is a good fit for people driven by a strong entrepreneurial spirit. For me, this means that I always try to find new exciting and complex projects that challenge us as performers, preferably with many different parts of technology. I appreciate being able to feel that trust; it’s also very inspiring to see others grow, and many have made great careers here. Actually, it’s only you who sets the limits, says Martin.
What qualities are good to have as a work manager?
As a work manager, I am responsible for a group of, among others, site managers, supervisors, and workers, so being able to understand different people’s needs and put yourself in other people’s roles is important to be able to create a good working group and a pleasant climate. Then you need to have a good eye for finding profitable projects, be solution-oriented and structured as there are often several projects being conducted simultaneously, says Martin.
Can you tell us about one of the projects you’re running right now?
I have previously been involved in the Opto 2.0 projects, which are a part of the Swedish Transport Administration’s expansion program to introduce the signaling system ERTMS, the European Rail Traffic Management System, in Sweden. NYAB Mälardalen just won NYAB’s fifth project within the program, and as a work manager, I have been involved all the way from the tender to ensuring that we take on the project and implement it according to plan. I see railways as a very exciting strategic investment, and we continue gaining new ground in the area. I look forward to keep expanding here in southern Sweden, Martin concludes.
