Meet Victor Tanndal – Work Manager at NYAB
31.07.23Victor Tanndal is a work manager at NYAB Mälardalen. He gets motivated by the opportunity to be an entrepreneur and find new ways to solve old problems. He believes the best way to get there is by having brave colleagues who enjoy their work and collaborate as a team.
“If you like to work together and cooperate with others, you will enjoy working with us. It’s easy to think that our industry is tech-heavy, but it’s mostly about building relationships.”
Hi Victor, can you tell us about your role as a work manager?
In my role as work manager, I am responsible for both personnel and results. It can be translated into identifying potential projects, resourcing them, and being responsible for each project’s results in my portfolio. My role includes everything from recruitment and personnel matters to budget and time planning. Since I started here in September, we have grown to just over 20 colleagues and totaled 10-12 projects.
What motivates you at work?
I get motivated by the opportunity to be an entrepreneur and find new ways to solve old problems. I’m not interested in quick fixes. Instead, I want to find our USP and the details and innovative methods that make us stand out from our competitors. That’s why I think it’s important to have the courage and strength to give every project a chance to be something special, not just do what we’ve always done. In the long term, we will always benefit from being at the forefront. When everything is proceeding as usual, and you think you know how to tackle a project, you must challenge yourself and dare to push it a bit extra.
I also like to tackle tricky and complex projects with elements we’ve never faced before. Having the right team around you is very important at times like that.
How do you build a strong team?
Many people talk about a shortage of competence, but I don’t agree. There are plenty of people to hire, but the difficult part is to put the right skills in the proper context. It requires tremendous tact and a clear thought process to build a long-term sustainable work group where each individual thrives. Therefore, you must dare to let go of that super deal if there is a risk that the group does not feel good about it.
If you like to work together and cooperate with others, you will enjoy working with us. It’s easy to think that our industry is tech-heavy, but it’s mostly about building relationships. I want to work with a reasonably large group where I get to know my colleagues; then, we can create a lack of prestige that goes both ways.
