NYAB expands with new office and exciting projects in Västerbotten

A lot is happening in Västerbotten. NYAB has signed contracts for several major projects: the expansion of the Port of Umeå, the first phase of the Norrbotniabanan railway, and the widening of a section of the E4 highway, to name a few. In addition, a new office has been opened in Umeå.

The newly appointed manager, Daniel Lambertsson, shares:

“It’s so exciting that we now have a presence and are established with the new office. With several new, large projects in the region, we are in the middle of an extensive recruitment process, looking for various roles such as skilled workers, site managers, and supervisors.”

The recruitment efforts, carried out in collaboration with the HR department, are going well. The interest from applicants shows that NYAB has a strong reputation in the industry, he says. So far, they have largely managed to staff the new projects internally through close collaboration with colleagues in the Mälardalen and Norrbotten regions.

“I really want to highlight the great teamwork we have in our company. There’s tremendous flexibility–people aren’t afraid to travel to other locations, and there’s a strong willingness to help out where needed. We’re incredibly good at utilizing the skills we have within the company.”

A new organization is being built

Daniel Lambertsson is a builder at heart. Since studying to become a project engineer in Luleå, he has remained loyal to the industry for over 20 years, working for several major companies. In large-scale construction projects, unexpected events are more the rule than the exception. In such cases, it’s crucial that the project manager can adapt to new situations, be communicative, engaged, and flexible–qualities that define him.

“It’s inspiring to build the organization in Västerbotten from the start, together with my colleagues. The investments being made in Västerbotten right now are important, and we’re very happy to be involved from the start in several of the projects, such as the expansion of the Port of Umeå. We established ourselves there in April when we began dredging for the construction of the new quay, and in May we also won a contract to repair one of the port’s ferry piers, P28. Growing and evolving with our clients is a great sign that we’re doing good work”, Lambertsson says.

Crucial for the region

Two additional large and complex projects that NYAB has been entrusted to initiate are the construction of the first section of the Norrbotniabanan railway–a 270-kilometer coastal line that will run between Umeå and Luleå–and the reconstruction and widening of the E4 highway between Gumboda and Grimsmark.

“These are important projects that will be absolutely crucial for the region’s expansion, and we are very much looking forward to contributing to both increased capacity and improved traffic safety”, Lambertsson says.
