NYAB signs agreement with Vasa Vind for the construction of a hybrid park with solar and wind power
18.03.25The project involves NYAB delivering a turnkey solar power plant of 19 MW to Vasa Vind. The plant is being built in Fröskog, south of Åmål, directly adjacent to the Fröskog wind farm which is under construction. The contract is worth approximately SEK 77 million, and the project will start in August 2025, with completion in the summer of 2026.
The solar power plant is NYAB’s first large-scale facility in Sweden. Previously, we have built several facilities in Finland, and we will leverage those experiences in this project.
“It is gratifying that NYAB is entrusted to build this hybrid park. Hybrid projects utilize existing grid connections for wind better, and we hope to inspire other players to think along these lines. Considering that the facility is being built on forest land, we have synergies through our solid expertise in ground contracting in such terrain,” says Magnus Bergqvist, Head of Energy Solutions at NYAB.
A hybrid facility means that the solar power plant is built together with a wind power park and that they share connection to the power grid. Solar and wind power are well suited together as it enables a higher utilization rate of the grid connection and a more even electricity production over time. This type of facility is expected to become increasingly common in the future as standalone solar power plants have long lead times for new grid connections.
