Skarta signs two contracts with LKAB for the execution of infrastructure projects
30.05.22As the mining of iron ore goes down to deeper levels in the Kiruna mine, Sjöbangården is affected in its northern part where it connects to Kiruna Malmbangård (KMB) and the Ore Line. Other existing infrastructure is also affected. As a consequence of this, LKAB is implementing the project “Infrastructure North Kiruna”. In which the two recently signed contracts “Land for other Infrastructure” and “Land for track construction Infrastructure North” are included.
Skarta’s two contracts include part of a new access road to the mining area, incl. GC port, VA, high voltage, opto, district heating, compressed air lines, cable ducts and cable wells. Ground work for a new railway yard incl. overhead line foundations and service routes. The contract form is a construction contract. Project start takes place immediately.

– LKAB looks forward to an important project in our long-term development and production in Kiruna. The project is initiated by the same ground movements that other communities and infrastructures in the Ore Fields are affected by. The infrastructure that today runs between society and LKAB now needs to be replaced. The next phase is the construction of a new sea yard in the same area, says Roger Fjellberg, project manager at LKAB.
