Isosuo solar photovoltaic power plant in Utajärvi

Site: Isosuo solar photovoltaic power plant in Utajärvi
Location: Utajärvi, Finland
Customer: Skarta Energy Oy
Year of completion: 07/2025, 06/2026

The Isosuo solar photovoltaic power plant in Utajärvi is a significant renewable energy project that, once completed, will produce approximately 97 GWh of solar electricity with a capacity of 102.5 MWp. The solar park will be built on an area of about 140 hectares, where 170,000 solar panels will be installed. The project also includes the construction of a substation and a 110 kV connection cable to the Utanen power plant. Skarta Energy is investing over 70 million euros in the project, with NYAB serving as the design and construction partner. The solar park will be commissioned in phases and is expected to be completed in the first half of 2026. The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment has granted the project an investment subsidy of 13.3 million euros, and the park will be connected to the national grid according to a previous connection agreement with Fingrid.

The project is part of Skarta Energy’s goal to operate 800 MW of solar power by the end of 2028. Utajärvi is being developed into a resource-wise municipality that uses natural resources and energy sustainably and promotes human well-being. The solar park will be built on a former peat production area, about 5 kilometers from the center of Utajärvi, significantly increasing the production of renewable energy in the area. Utajärvi is part of the HINKU network of municipalities committed to emission reductions, reinforcing its commitment to environmentally friendly solutions.
