Meet Olli-Pekka Purhonen – Solar Power Construction Project Director
09.02.24In August 2023, NYAB’s Construction team welcomed Olli-Pekka Purhonen as the Solar Power Construction Project Director. Before joining NYAB, Olli-Pekka had accumulated diverse experience in both corporate sales of solar power plants and project business in demanding projects. “My interest in NYAB was sparked when I came across the description of NYAB’s open Project Director position, as it aligned with my expertise and offered responsible new challenges. Discussions with Antti Nissinen further solidified my thoughts and interest in becoming part of NYAB’s growth story,” says Olli-Pekka.
What are your responsibilities?
Olli-Pekka is primarily responsible for industrial-scale solar power sales and the successful implementation of projects, as well as services related to maintenance and upkeep. “We provide comprehensive construction and maintenance solutions for the entire lifespan of a solar power plant,” Olli-Pekka explains. “Solar power represents new business for NYAB, with high expectations for growth.”
What is the most interesting aspect of your work?
“The meaningfulness of the work has always been important to me, and NYAB’s role as a builder of a clean future is emphasized every day. Solar power is part of the energy solution, reducing carbon dioxide emissions while increasing Finland’s energy self-sufficiency. Projects are now being launched at a good pace. This can rightly be called the dawn of a new era,” says Olli-Pekka.
How do our values manifest in our everyday work?
“The first few months in my new role have shown that NYAB operates according to its values. There’s a strong culture of getting things done here, and belief in the results of cooperation. In addition to comprehensive onboarding, I’ve received support from my professional colleagues while working. Customer needs are at the forefront, and environmental care is evident in our daily work. We also actively invest in workplace safety and well-being,” says Olli-Pekka.
How do you maintain a work-life balance?
Olli-Pekka’s workdays are mainly spent in his home office in Hämeenlinna. After work, he often engages in physical activity and outdoor pursuits. “In winter, I play ice hockey, cross-country ski, and go to the gym. In summer, I often spend my free time on golf courses, of which there are plenty in the Hämeenlinna area. My wife and two daughters, one of whom already lives on her own, also contribute to maintaining my work-life balance,” says Olli-Pekka. When asked about interesting places to visit in Hämeenlinna, Olli-Pekka has clear recommendations: Aulanko offers stunning national landscapes, and the medieval Häme Castle is a must-visit.
