NYAB signs a contract to prepare for the construction of Aurora Line
20.12.22NYAB and Svenska kraftnät have made an agreement to prepare for the construction of a power line between Sweden and Finland. The new line increases the transmission capacity, improves security of supply, and enables an increase in renewable electricity production in Nordics and Baltic Sea area.
The contract signed regards the first phase of the project for transmission connection between Dockasberg and Risudden. The first phase includes planning and begins in the beginning of 2023.
Enabling the green transition
The transmission system operator Svenska kraftnät, in cooperation with the Finnish transmission system operator Fingrid Oyj, is planning a new 400 kV transmission line from Pyhänselkä in Muhos via Keminmaa to Messaure on the Swedish side of the border. Aurora Line will be completed in 2025 and it will increase trading capacity between Sweden and Finland with ca 700 MW when the connection is built.
NYAB is able to offer its entire expertise in the energy sector, from engineering to energy construction and on to land construction services, for the project.
– We choose our projects carefully, and Aurora Line perfectly matches our competence and ambition to build a clean future. Our skilled organization in infrastructure projects and energy construction will be involved. It´s very suitable for us to be part of a Sweden-Finland cross boarder undertaking like Aurora line. Together with Svenska kraftnät and Fingrid, says Magnus Granljung, Senior Vice President, NYAB Sweden.
Increased security of supply
The new line between Sweden and Finland will be of great benefit to the entire Nordic electricity market. It increases security of supply in Finland and integrates the country further into the Nordic electricity system. It also enables us to make better use of balancing power and reserves in both Sweden and Finland.
